The right way to adopt HubSpot AI is to start with data readiness and the free assistive tools, then add one credit-consuming agent tied to one measurable problem. HubSpot's AI now runs on a shared monthly credit pool, so choosing features is a budget decision as much as a capability one.
This guide reflects HubSpot's lineup after the Fall 2026 Spotlight at UNBOUND. Credit rates and tier rules change often, so check the HubSpot Product & Services Catalog before you commit.
HubSpot's AI comes in three layers: assistive tools a person drives, AI steps inside workflows and properties, and autonomous agents managed in Agent Hub (which replaced Breeze Studio in summer 2026).
| Feature | Layer | What it does | Best first use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breeze Assistant | Assistive | Answers questions, summarizes records, drafts content | Rep productivity, call prep |
| Smart CRM capture | Assistive | Logs calls, emails and meetings automatically | Ending manual data entry |
| Data enrichment | Data | Fills standard company and contact fields | Clean firmographics before scoring |
| Data Agent (smart properties) | Data | Answers a custom research question per record | ICP fit, custom segmentation |
| Buyer Intent | Data | Flags companies showing research signals | Account targeting for ABM |
| AI workflow actions | Automation | Runs one AI step inside a workflow | Lead routing, ticket triage |
| Customer Agent | Agent | Resolves support conversations across channels | High-volume, repeatable questions |
| Prospecting Agent | Agent | Watches buying signals and drafts outreach | Teams without dedicated BDRs |
| Deal Progression | Agent | Turns transcripts into CRM updates and follow-ups | Pipeline hygiene |
| Campaign, Content and Nurture agents | Agent | Build campaigns, draft content, personalize emails | Lean marketing teams |
| Custom agents (Agent Builder) | Agent | Your own triggers and actions | Processes no packaged agent covers |
| Context Home | Governance | Scores data completeness and flags gaps | Readiness baseline |
Agents can only work with the data a portal already has. If you fail two or more of these checks, start at Phase 1, whatever feature you had in mind.
The most common failure we see: most contacts sit at Lead with no company associations and no scoring. Fix that first.
Start from your main pain point, not the feature list. Most teams need one primary feature and one supporting feature.
| Symptom | Primary feature | Supporting feature | Credit load |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reps skip logging, so the CRM is stale | Smart CRM capture | Breeze Assistant | Low |
| Records are thin or missing firmographics | Data enrichment | Data Agent | Low to medium |
| Deals stall and nobody follows up | Deal Progression | Prospecting Agent | Medium |
| No BDR, and the pipeline needs new accounts | Prospecting Agent | Buyer Intent | High |
| Leads stuck at Lead, with no scoring | AI lead scoring with Data Agent properties | Nurture Agent | Medium |
| A small marketing team can't keep up | Campaign Agent | Content Agent | High |
| Nurture emails get low engagement | Nurture Agent | Smart properties | Low to medium |
| Support volume spikes or after-hours gaps | Customer Agent | Knowledge Base Agent | Medium, scales with volume |
| Inbound needs routing or triage | AI workflow actions | Breeze Assistant | Low |
| A unique process no agent covers | Custom agent | Agent Hub monitoring | Variable |
Every paid portal gets a monthly credit pool that doesn't roll over, and every agent, AI workflow step and enrichment job draws from it. Extra credits cost $0.01 each. Starter editions include 500 credits a month, Professional 3,000 (5,000 on Data Hub or Customer Platform), and Enterprise 5,000 (10,000).
Rule of thumb: a Prospecting Agent recommending 300 leads a month uses about 30,000 credits, 10 times a Professional allowance and roughly $270 a month in overage. Model it before you switch it on.
If Gate 2 fails, keep the agent in draft mode and fix the prompts, knowledge base or data before trying again.
